This is a really cool thing we been involved in since 2007. Please visit their site for a more detailed explanation, but to summarize, what they do is travel around the country holding battle-of-the-bands type contests in almost every state for three months straight. The winner of each local contest then goes on to round two, a national voting round which may give them the opportunity to have one of their songs nationally distributed on a Project Independent compilation album. If they get voted as best of the best in round three they will tour nationally the following year, headlining each of those local contests. Project Independent also hooks up the big winner with a lot of other really great prizes. It's the kind of thing that keeps the music about the music and not about the big companies that are paying for it, and EVERYBODY should support what they're doing. HOW? All you need to do is go see the closest PI contest to you this fall, and when December rolls around strap on your voting gloves and make sure your favorite band is the big winner! |
